Xavi sheds light on Lionel Messi's decision to turn down Barcelona

Xavi's Barça won't have Messi next season

Barcelona manager Xavi has explained why Lionel Messi chose to join Major League Soccer side Inter Miami instead of returning to Camp Nou, stating that Messi desired a more peaceful life. This decision came after Messi announced his move to the United States following the confirmation that he would not extend his stay with Paris Saint-Germain, despite receiving a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal.

Following Messi's switch to Inter Miami, Barcelona's public relations team has been active, with Messi stating that he never received a formal offer from his former club. However, a statement from Catalonia revealed that terms were indeed presented to the 35-year-old, but he opted for a league with fewer demands, away from the intense spotlight and pressure he had experienced in recent years.

Xavi, who previously acknowledged that the decision rested with Messi, emphasized that the burden of being the world's best player played a role in the final outcome. In an interview with the Portuguese publication Ge, Xavi stated, "We often fail to put ourselves in the other person's shoes and lack empathy. Being Leo Messi is not easy. He is constantly under scrutiny and has to excel in everything. It's normal that he no longer wants that kind of pressure. He wants a more peaceful life."

Xavi also noted a change in Messi's demeanor in recent weeks and urged everyone to respect his decision.
