CalBunka - A Musical Night & More

CalBunka - A Musical Night & More

There happens to be some events that you treasure for life. CalBunka, organised and arranged by Calcutta Cacophony, has been one of that kind.
CalBunka, in its 7th edition now, has been an epic extravaganza at its core; introducing an experience that you most possibly haven't met in the city before.
On the 12th and 13th of January, the city was brought to life with yet another unique experience at The Stadel, courtesy of CalBunka (7). From the magic of live music, to an amazingly curated market, from lip-smacking food to hard-to-keep-a-count number of other activities - CalBunka presented an experience that you no way should have missed for anything else in life. And when I say this, I count taking an early leave from your day job in; because nothing beats a happening evening with some of the finest musicians of town and some jaw-dropping other stuffs.
On its first day, the live music scene kicked off with the Pelican Shuffles and then came the mighty The Illegal Project peeps. Frankly, it's sort of illegal to be that good in music! I mean how do you do with just the assigned time slot with so much talent! And then there were people like Praveen Achary and 8-Bit Culprit in The Inside Room. The Inside Room was on fire really!
Ain't it enough to lose your sanity! If you need more, there's an amazing flea market right around from where you can buy stuffs that you don't generally stumble across. There are handcrafted wearables, beautiful accesories, and oh there's this stall called Lini's World that was my favourite. Malini Chakravarty, based in Mumbai, she makes cute little sculptures from some particular kind of clay. She even has sculptures that glow in the dark. Can you imagine! I guess, awesomeness is what it is!
Coming back to the event, there was a long line-up of artists for the second day. Starting it off with the Open-Mic, there was Ziba. There was The Arinjoy Trio featuring Rohan Ganguli, Warren Mendonsa and Ruddy Wallang. Imagine! Though I think, you would do much better witnessing them before your open eyes than dreaming about their music with eyes closed!
With songs from languages we don't know, Ziba set the stage on fire. From the mightiest Amyt Datta to the one and only - Arko Mukhaerjee, it was a treat to cherish for an entire lifetime. So much so, that when they were asked for 'one more', they were almost similarly delighted to perform one more piece, as we were! And trust me, it probably was the best encore piece ever!
How often do you see artists like them! Or artists like Arinjoy, Rohan Ganguli, Warren Mendonsa and Ruddy Wallang - with whom even Mr Amyt Datta came up to the stage to play once again!
Just try to measure the amount of sheer contentment of the audience at that moment! It won't justify the happiness though! You've got to experience it first hand to get the taste of it! Just like I did!
With other activities like Shaolin and MMA Showcase, the display of wide range of Martial Arts of different forms and styles, Phuchka Competition sponsored by Swiggy, or even Zumba on foot-tapping tracks for that matter - CalBunka was something wonderfully fresh.
For in the quotient of enjoyability and excitement - CalBunka (7) was LIT AF!
Until next time, Calcutta Cacophony; may you guys keep on feeding the soul of the city like this only.
